1. Introduction

At Dream9, your privacy is fundamental to everything we build. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the Dream9 application and related services (the "Service").

We designed Dream9 with a local-first architecture, meaning your dream journal entries and personal data are stored directly on your device. We believe your dreams are deeply personal, and you should have full control over them.

2. Data Storage — Local by Design

All of your core data is stored exclusively on your device. This includes:

  • Dream journal entries and descriptions
  • Tags, categories, and personal annotations
  • Sleep quality metrics and tracked patterns
  • Goals, preferences, and app settings
  • Any images, audio recordings, or media you attach to entries

Dream9 does not upload, sync, or back up your dream data to our servers. If you delete the app or lose your device, your locally stored data cannot be recovered by us. We recommend using your device's built-in backup features to safeguard your data.

3. AI Analysis of Your Data

Dream9 uses artificial intelligence to provide dream interpretations, pattern recognition, and personalized insights. To deliver these features, portions of your dream content may be sent to third-party AI service providers for processing. Here is how this works:

  • What is sent: The text content of dream entries you choose to analyze, along with minimal context needed for accurate interpretation
  • When it is sent: Only when you explicitly request an AI analysis or insight — never automatically or in the background
  • How it is sent: Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS) and is not associated with your identity
  • Retention by AI providers: We select AI providers that do not retain your input data for training purposes. Processed data is discarded after the response is generated

AI-generated interpretations and insights are returned to your device and stored locally, just like the rest of your data. Dream9 does not store copies of the data sent for analysis on its own servers.

4. Information We Do Not Collect

Because Dream9 is built on a local-first model, we do not collect:

  • Your dream journal entries or personal content
  • Your name, email address, or account credentials (unless you contact us directly)
  • Location data, contacts, or device identifiers for tracking purposes
  • Browsing history or activity across other apps

5. Information We May Collect

While your dream data stays on your device, we may collect limited, anonymized information to maintain and improve the Service:

  • Crash reports and diagnostics: Anonymous technical data to identify and fix bugs
  • Aggregate usage analytics: Non-identifiable statistics such as which features are most used, to help us prioritize development
  • Purchase information: Transaction records managed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store for in-app purchases or subscriptions

This data is never linked to your dream content and cannot be used to identify you personally.

6. Third-Party Services

Dream9 may integrate with the following categories of third-party services:

  • AI processing providers: To deliver dream analysis and interpretation features (as described in Section 3)
  • Analytics services: To collect anonymized usage data for product improvement
  • App store platforms: Apple App Store and Google Play Store handle payment processing and app distribution

Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies. We select partners that uphold strong data protection standards and do not sell user data.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information:

  • All data transmitted for AI analysis is encrypted using industry-standard TLS encryption
  • Your locally stored data benefits from your device's built-in security features (passcode, biometric lock, device encryption)
  • We do not maintain a centralized database of user dream content, significantly reducing the risk of a data breach affecting your personal entries

While no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, the local-first design of Dream9 means that your most sensitive data never leaves your device unless you explicitly request AI analysis.

8. Children's Privacy

Dream9 is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Because your data is stored locally, you have complete control:

  • Access and export: You can view and export all of your data directly from the app at any time
  • Deletion: You can delete individual entries or all data from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data
  • Opt out of AI analysis: You can use Dream9 as a standalone journal without ever using AI features
  • Analytics opt-out: You can disable anonymized analytics collection in the app settings

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Notify you through the app or other appropriate channels
  • Provide at least 30 days' notice before significant changes take effect

Your continued use of the Service after any modifications indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
